When planning our relocation from Phoenix to Raleigh, one of the things we were really looking forward to were the fresh, local produce available at the farmer's markets.

Well, we arrived earlier this week and the kitchen is unpacked and ready to cook.

Can anyone help me find the days, times and locations of farmer's markets near the Brier Creek area? Organc not necessary.

Western Wake would be the closest one I believe. Western Wake Farmers
Although the one in downtown Durham would be about the same distance (20 minutes about) if you hop on 70. Durham Farmers Market - North Carolina - Local Produce and Crafts for Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill Cary and the Triangle I like that one better than the Western Wake one as well.

Though if you hop on the highway and just head down to the big State Farmers' Market that's only about 25 minutes from Brier Creek, has a better selection, and the prices are cheaper. NCDA&CS - Marketing Division - Raleigh Farmers Market

You can also consider joining a CSA and having it brought to you! You can search on here and you'll find several suggestions.

I joined The Produce Box after several recommendations from this forum, and I have not been disappointed. Love it!

You might also try out the South Durham Farmer's Market: http://www.southdurhamfarmersmarket.org/ Lovely, easy parking.

It just began this year, so it is still growing, but I'm enjoying it. Bought some nice zephyr squash last week, made a Pinterest recipe with it.

But you should also check out the State Farmer's Market -- it is the largest I'd think, in the area. Just a bit more driving from some areas. It can be fun to make an outing of it (also a good place to look at Christmas trees and crafts later in the year).

Thanks so much for all the quick replies! How are the prices on non organic goods as compared to local grocery stores like Lowes, Kroger, etc?

(In Phoenix, Whole Foods had beautiful produce, but OMG the prices were unbelievably high) )

At the main farmers' market, prices are about the same or cheaper than you will pay in the supermarket but the quality is higher imo. At some of the smaller farmers' market they really jack up the prices. I about had a heart attack when I saw how much they were charging for potatoes at the Carrboro farmers' market right before Thanksgiving. I ended up just buying my turkey and driving to the main market on Lake Wheeler to get the rest of my produce!

Not only is it the largest in NC, revenue-wise it's the largest on the East Coast. I remember one year it managed to beat out Pike Place Market in revenue which was a huge deal when they reported that.

Which is why Whole Foods is universally referred to as "Whole Paycheck." No difference here or anywhere.

Just save yourself the trouble and head to the State Farmers Market. It's the largest with the most selection. All others "smaller" wanna be markets are just overpriced with few selections.
