Hello! We are relocating to the Brier Creek area this weekend and are hoping to learn more about restaurants/nightlife options close to the area. We like non-chain, trendy, eclectic restaurants and either bars or lounges for nightlife. We are in our early 30s... can you help with some recommendations?

Champa has pretty good Thai and Sushi. Carolina Ale House (which is a chain, but local) is a good place to watch a game and have a beer. Not a real night life hotspot at Brier Creek.

The nightlife isn't great around there. If you drive a few miles down 70 south and you get to glenwood south. Very nice and trendy area. You will learn Raleigh is too spread out to have everything in 1 area, although Brier creek is pretty close if you like strip malls. They have Azitra there which is a nice indian restaurant that has a fun bar at nights, carolina ale house for sports, Rio Churrasaria (sp?) for Brazilian buffet.

You're not going to find that in the Brier Creek area. You'll need to head downtown - roughly 15 miles south east.

Brier Creek is not:
non-chain, trendy, eclectic restaurants and bars

Brier Creek is:
Wal-Mart, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Pier 1, PetSmart, Staples, Applebees, Chili's Grill & Bar, Quiznos, etc

There is a nice restaurant/bar southeast on 70 right next to the Raleigh Grand movie theater called Lynwood Grill. It's casual, they often have live music, you can watch NCAA (as well as other sports) there and their food is very good. I wouldn't necessarily call it nightlife, but it can be a fun place to meet with friends for drinks, food, etc. It is not a chain.

Like others have said, Brier Creek is mostly chains. There is a movie theater there, though, if that counts for anything. You'll find more of what you're looking for in downtown Raleigh, Glenwood South, etc.

One place you might try is Azitra, an upscale Indian restaurant. It's not my favorite, but many seem to like it.

As one would expect in a suburban area, it's mostly chains and stripmalls.
Like others said, what you're looking for will be mostly in Raleigh's downtown...and surrounding areas around that, still Inside-the-Belitline.
Also, downtown Durham is pretty close to Brier Creek area, and has a good deal of what you're looking for. (They're especially known for outstanding fine-dining options.)
And even downtown Chapel Hill/Carrboro is not too far away...giving you even more to enjoy.

I don't think Margaux's is too far from Brier Creek. I would definitely check that out. Everyone else is correct in saying Brier Creek is full of chain restaurants/bars. Glenwood South is your best bet for what you are looking for. Unfortunately, it can be a good 30 minute drive for you depending on traffic.

I second the recommendation for Margaux's. It is exactly what you appear to be looking for. Very trendy, high end eclectic restaurant. Menu changes weekly with a wide assortment of international food. Great bar. lounge area with live music most Friday nights after 10.
