I-440 West is closed near Jones Franklin and traffic being diverted through the US-1 collector lanes after the pavement started to buckle under the heat. Guess it's about the best place it could happen since you've got the collector lanes running parallel to the main road. Still, traffic looks to be backed up a long way.
What's the summer weather parallel to a snow day? A heat day? we should definitely all stay home and fill up our bathtubs with ice cubes. Those roads just aren't safe. If they are buckling at 105, what is going to happen when it is 110?
My A/C isn't properly balanced and the upstairs is always warmer than the downstairs in summer, but I'm currently looking at 83 up and 73 down. Unfortunately my office is upstairs.

I remember when I was a little kid in New Jersey, the elementary school I went to did not have any a/c, so if the temperature got up to something like 98 degrees they would send us home for the day. We always loved it but my parents were never thrilled. Kids down here get their snow days for a 1/4" of snow and I got heat days

Upstairs will always be harder to cool. Most AC units are designed for a 15 degree differential cooling capability. This kind of heat can overwhelm the second floor AC. It's currently 103 where I live and my AC can only hold it at 81 right now.
Did a 45 minute bike ride on the way home from work today. I was in the woods, under the shade of trees, so it wasn't that bad. I can't imagine doing the same thing on pavement out in the sun.

When I was a kid (here, in the mid 80's) for the first few years of elementary school, only one of the buildings had a/c. So if it got super hot in June and August we'd all get to go have an impromptu assembly in that building. They'd try to keep some semblance of education going but eventually it turned in to one big gym class with the parachute game. Best days ever!
