Actually at DBAP there is a new stand this year "Top Dog" if I remember right & they are pretty good.
I like the dog w/the 'slaw on it. They have several unique ones on the menu.

I agree with Garnetpalmetto that the regular hot dogs at the base stands are meh. But the specialty dogs are worth the try.

The specialty dogs still use Brightleaf franks though. Blech.

I don't find Snoopy's all that it's hyped up to be. Even more overrated is the Roast Grill in Downtown Raleigh. These hot dogs don't taste any different than what I can throw on the grill.

The beef hot dogs they sell out of the corner stands around Downtown Raleigh tastes better.

I have heard great things about Cloos from my friends and I'm dying to try it.

I know we aren't talking about chains, but I just had the foot long coney dog at Sonic this past Saturday and it was amazing.

When I want a hot dog, I head to Jerry's Grill on Wake Forest Road, Raleigh (across from Snoopy's). Two hot dogs, fries and a drink for $4.99.

Hillbilly's in Zebulon is pretty dang good too.

Believe it or not, I also enjoy the specialty dogs at Sonic. And I hated Sonic food till someone made me try the hot dogs. Good stuff.

I think the deal about Roast Grill ("Hot Wieners") is the ambiance, and the "friendly" service. The dogs suck, the price list on the wall makes me chuckle every time, yet every Raleigh resident should experience it.

Damn, I'm on a roll with the quotes today. ("Friendly" service. LMAO...) Ha, I crack myself up...

Snoopy's dogs are pale, limp and gross. Their fixins are good, but the dog itself looks terribly anemic.

Re the OP: all I could think was: Hotdogs don't have joints! Their limbs are all one piece.

I rarely eat hot dogs so can't vouch for any around this area myself. Just wanted to mention though if you're ever up in the Western NY/Buffalo area and want a great dog, check out Ted's Hot Dogs. My husband would flip his lid if anyone opened a Ted's chain here!

My husband is a fan of their grilled baloney sandwhiches too. They don't have a website, but they're in the shopping center on the corner of Capital and Old Wake Forest Rd, behind the Burger King.
There is nothing better on a hot day that a fried balony with mayo and lettuce on white bread!!!

LOL, indeed "friendly" service. Don't you even dare ask for ketchup. NO! NO! NO!
Makes me want to experience Wiener Circle in Chicago.

My husband loves Aubrey's & Peedies Grill in Wendell. This is an old-school hamburger/hot dog joint. No fancy plates or utensils, cash only.
