Well, to be fair, a lot will depend on how much exposure your townhome has on the two external walls. Downstairs, the front of my house has no windows. It's garage and front door. The back side of the house just has a sliding glass door. So downstairs maintains warmth pretty well. Upstairs, by contrast, has a lot of windows on both the front and the back, and cools down quicker (especially at night in the absence of sunlight).

I also find that I want the heat a bit higher at the beginning of the season before I've really adjusted to the colder temps and pull out the heavier clothes & blankets on the bed.

So I might start my heat at 72 in Nov but I'll drop it to 68-70 by December if it stays chilly then by the time the january cold hits, it is definitely down to 68 or even 65.

I thought I was the only one who did this! I turned it on yesterday when it wasn't even really cold out but I wanted to take the chill out of the air (and with electric heat, it ain't fast). It was on for about 8 minutes and then I turned it off for the rest of the night. It's 70 in here but I'm still in the bed with blankets.

I'm glad I don't have to pay your heating bills! Our heat will go on when it gets down to the 40s at night, and our house temp dips into the 50s.

It cost us twice as much each month to heat our home, as it does to cool it. It's about 70* in my house right now, I have ceiling fans on. Heat won't go on until it's in the 40s as night, and stays those temps.

Our thermostats say it's 70 on the 2nd floor, 69 on the first, and 75 on the 3rd.

I don't buy it. I'm cold. Just bumped the 1st floor up a degree.

I might need to move into your house. I love sleeping in the high 40's to low 50's. Once when my wife was pregnant, our bedroom got into the low 30's.

Is this another case of "barefoot in the summer" and "pregnant in the winter" ? low 30's ?? omg You're lucky your pipes didn't freeze.

I turned my heat on yesterday. It hasn't been on much yet though.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've see people out and about this week, wearing big thick fur lined parkas, with the hoods up, like they are dogsledding through Alaska. It's 70 fricking degrees out!
