Does anyone know of any places where I can get high quality unfinished wood furniture for a reasonable amount of money? I'm particularly interested in dining room sets, coffee/end tables and chests of drawers.

Anywhere in the triangle would be fine, but Carrboro/CH/Durham would be the most convenient.

I'm relocating to the area with my family and am basically having to furnish an entire apartment from scratch. The prices on quality finished stuff are mind-boggling! (My wife and I like to paint, so finishing the furniture with our own colors would be a fun project for us anyway).

You might also want to check out Rockwood Furniture in Durham. We purchased a bunch of stuff from them and are in the process of painting / staining it now. Pretty simple designs, but all wood and seems solid.

We went to CJ.

Quality way down. Mostly now imported trash from Asia.

I went and looked at their web site....they have a half-arc console table that I quite like. I may have call for a price to see if it would be worth the work to sand, stain and finish myself.

Was never impressed with CJ's, have been there three times, and am very happy to hear of Rockwood.
