I have really enjoyed reading all the posts here and would like to call on your knowledge of the area to help me. I have heard rumors that it is hard for a new grad RN to get hired in the raleigh area, anyone have any information on this? I will graduate in May 2008 and although I live in upstate NY I have made arrangements with the NC board of Nursing to take my Nclex exam for licensing in NC. Thank you for any input you have.
From what I've heard (don't quote me on this) but it's relatively easy to find nursing jobs in the Triangle. I am not in the medical field, but I've read some other posts reguarding this and I've even seen someone who was offered a pretty significant sign on bonus if she was to accept the job when she got here.
I don't know what areas you specialize in, but there are a few really great hospitals in the area; Duke, WakeMed, Rex, UNC Healthcare, Dorothea Dix (soon to be closing??).
I googled "Triangle hospitals" and this is what I got:
Hi, I don't think you will have any problem finding a job. There is UNC in Chapel Hill, Duke in Durham, Rex in Raleigh and Wake Med in eastern Raleigh and Wake Med in Cary. UNC, Duke and Wake Med in eastern Raleigh are all big teaching hospitals. I think Wake Med pays the best (especially because of the weekend differential). E-mail me privately if you need more info.
I had 3 clients of mine get RN jobs this year. Two of them were brand new to the field, they came from different careers and wanted to switch to nursing. They both had jobs lined up with WakeMed weeks before they were done with training. From what they told me, demand is still high so it should not be a huge problem finding jobs.
I am applying with WakeMed, I discovered they have fellowships for new grads so I will keep my fingers crossed!
