As someone who has lived most of his life in NY, I'm used to having some hot & humid days in the summer - mostly in July and August. But summer hasn't even begun yet, and we've already had several days in the 90s with talk of 100 degree temps this week. I even saw a forecast of 102 degrees for next Monday.
I lived in central Florida for about 2 1/2 years back in the late 90s, and I think the weather here feels just as bad if not worse than it did in Florida this time of year. Heat and humidity is why people don't want to be in Florida in the summer. Tell the Yankees who are thinking of relocating to this area that it's going to be just as hot here as in Florida during June, July, August (and September?) and I think they'll think twice about coming here.
BTW, as I am writing this, the temperature in Orlando is 92, in Tampa it's 94 and in Raleigh it's 97.
Definitely feels early to be hitting 100 (or close to it...think RDU only got to 99 today and has since backed off to 97). The last time RDU officially hit 100 was around 4th of July 2012 when we had a record of nearly a week straight hitting at least 100, so some summers we never quite get as hot as we already are right now.

This is the week we moved here. DH was ready to KILL me for choosing here. That summer was deadly!
But like others have said, winters are better! I'll melt in the summer to avoid being frozen for half the year. They did call WI the frozen tundra and it sure earned its name. They are still in the 60s/70s there and my kids are swimming.
100 years ago air conditioning was a rarity; 200 years ago it didn't exist. Think about what life in North Carolina was like back then. Remember that most of the population worked in agriculture so they were out in the fields on such days as today.

How do we stop the Mets from moving in?
