We looked at a house for sale in Chapel Hill in 2005-6 that was on a very strangely named street. In fact, we remember thinking that the only real negative (if you could call it that) regarding the house was the name of the street on which it was located. However, we LOVED the house and we now can't remember what it was called.

It's relevant now since our move is official and we're coming in April.

Does anyone recall any macabre, ghoulish, evil or otherwise strange street names in Chapel Hill?

OR, does anyone know of an online listing of street names for a given city?

Thanks!

There is a street called "Gimghoul" Street adjacent to the university. This may be the street, although none of the properties on the Orange County Real Estate information page look familiar . . .

Is there anyway to rapidly search recent home sales within a given county?

Too funny -- 'macabre' street names. There is a Gimghoul Street -- I think a house called Gimghoul Castle is there, and it is supposedly haunted by young lovers. One fellow died in a duel and walks the grounds. Purportedly, you can see his blood on a large rock behind the place.

While this is not in the macabre category, I always giggle when I pass
Tinkerbell street in Chapel Hill.

I think Mt. Bolus is a pretty weird name....

Wikipedia says Bolus is
Bolus can refer to:

* Bolus (medicine) - the administration of a drug, medication or other substance in the form of a single, large dose
* Bolus (digestion) - a ball-shaped mass moving through the digestive tract
* Bolus hook - an instrument in a Jacquard loom
* Bolus can also refer to a pastry from the Netherlands.
* Bolus (also Baulus) is an Anatolian village on the site of ancient Berissa

I wonder which one they had in mind....I really hope it's not the digestive tract one!

Freakonomics says that the name of the street you live on can affect the price of your home:
