The police wouldn't help you with that. Anyone can check their own credit for free twice a year.
Why can attorneys and/or bail bonds people check this information, but a normal citizen cannot check for either themselves or someone else? I am vigilant about checking every possible piece of information about me from every source available to make sure the information is current and correct. It seems like a catch-22. How can you know if there is a problem if you can't check - if checking will cause a problem?
How much would it cost to have someone around here do a legit check, and is that inquiry confidential or would the mere act of checking be a red flag?

You're overly paranoid. Why not call the sheriff/police department? They aren't going to send out the fugitive task force for a disorderly conduct or whatever.
Borrow someone else's phone if you're so concerned.
