I recently stayed at a decent local hotel in Raleigh. At the breakfast bar in the morning, there were 2 unaccompanied pre-teen girls who were in pajamas / lounge pants (slightly see-through ) and completely BAREFOOT. Not even a flip flop or slipper. The hotel employee working the breakfast room saw this and said/did nothing. When we checked out, I addressed the issue with management, who gave the usual excuses and basically said they're leery of dealing with it because the parents get angry. It made for a pretty bad breakfast. Yuck. They blew off my suggestion of establishing a policy with signage that requires shoes and prohibits unaccompanied minors.
So, does anyone know if there are city ordinances or state health regulations that require guests to wear shoes in such circumstances? A quick Google search didn't really turn up anything. Thought I'd ask the collective wisdom here. Just curious.
You suggested no unaccompanied minors be allowed at a hotel breakfast bar? That seems a bit over the top. I can see why they dismissed your suggestions.
No, I don't think it's a problem, and not illegal. I see a barefoot guy around Carrboro in stores(!) all the time. I'm sure if he's allowed to be in a store, they're allowed to be in their hotel barefoot. I'd be more concerned about the slightly see through garments. I wonder if their parents realized they had gone down to the breakfast bar or if they snuck down there. Seems like something a kid might try to do.
It is pretty tacky but I don't think there's anything illegal about it or a hygiene issue.
If the hotel didn't care and you feel strongly about it, write a letter to corporate and them know that because of their apathy on something you perceive as distasteful, you wont be returning. I don't personally think it would be a bad policy to have just to keep it classy.
I have teens and they need to be not in PJs to leave the hotel room. (at least in sweats or athletic shorts or something). I tell my kids, its not your living room.
