Looking to sell off all 14 stores. Harris Teeter has agreed to buy eight of them so far. Food Lion is taking one, and Crunch Fitness is taking another.

That's unfortunate. I hate to see them go to be honest.

How exactly is Harris Teeter acquiring stores from their owner? I guess they really were serious that they were allowing them to run as a separate business.

Too much competition.
And, getting better returns from the HT flag, I suspect.

Seems a bit drastic, but given that they own Harris Teeter, not entirely surprising (I always found it funny that as you go up Creedmor, there is a Kroger or Harris Teeter on the corner for literally 4 major intersections in a row. Made sense when they were separate companies, but now, not so much). I am glad the new Publix is opening 5 minutes from my house later this year, though, because if my options were just Food Lion or Harris Teeter, I wouldn't be thrilled.

Too bad. I liked Kroger as a medium priced store. Cheaper than Lowes, Harris Teeter etc.

Yes, they did. Even though some of the services have merged, general store operations haven't really changed.
