I still think we probably start the year on remote learning. I think that’s the easiest way for leadership to “kick the can down the road” for a little bit longer. It may be unpopular, but it carries very little measurable risk.
The funny thing is he’ll probably leave it up to the counties.
To some degree, that's already the plan. The intention is for the state to announce one of the three plans as a baseline, and then local districts will have the option to be more restrictive.

unless something changed, the NCGA prohibited that. I know the BOE wanted that changed but not sure that happened.
I agree. This is so ridiculous. YR teachers have to be back at school July 17, THEY NEED A PLAN.
WCPSS, better be planning NOW anyway. They know they need remote learning no matter which plan we follow and the last one they put out sucked. If we open, my bet is at 50%. Based on the survey answers they published they should be figuring out how many teachers are going to be willing to teach in person. They are allowed to be more strict than the Governor plan but not less. I sincerely hope they are planning and not waiting.

I think they were waiting for direction from the guv'na. Oh well.
My DH listened to a podcast yesterday and the speaker was someone who works for a company that provides PPE to school districts in NC. He said Durham and Wake are "woefully" behind.
But don't worry they got free lunch for the summer covered.
I listened to Cohen and Cooper's press conferences today and they said the "new data" from the American Academy of Pediatrics and other data coming in shows promising info for in-person teaching. Hopefully, that's a good sign that schools can reopen.

I’m hoping this is so, at least for elementary aged students. I do think there will need to be online options for families of students and employees at high risk.
That AAP data leaves me less reassured about high school aged students, though. It’s the adults working in the schools I worry about. I’m one of them.
