They were serving buffet back in October, which was not ok
Why is that "not OK"? I totally get why people might choose not to go, but if it is in accordance with the law, isn't it their choice? We were at the OBX in Sept 2020 and they had buffets going. People had to wear disposable gloves, masks, etc. But they were running.
Like I said, I totally get why many would not go, but I don't know what law it broke to make it "not OK".
Dharani is (was) my fave buffet in the region. I'm not sure I'm ready to go back there yet, especially since I'm Work From Home now, and it was near my office, but the food was good!

I believe they were having an employee serve the food, which was OK. Whole Foods was doing that with their salad bar/hot bar for a while as well - had an employee standing there to dish out food. It didn't go on for very long, so I assume it wasn't overly popular.

There's more to something being OK than just being lawful. During a pandemic, in October of 2020, it is my opinion that it was irresponsible and potentially disease-spreading to open your restaurant buffet. That opinion is not changing.
Also, the other poster is wrong, it was a regular buffet and they admitted that on Facebook. Agree about the food quality, though.
I have Pierre to thank for introducing me to Dharani a few months back, since then it's our go-to place, over Taj, Nazara and Himalaya Range. Not the cleanest looking place though, and all but once we get take-out.
I'll probably go back to Dharani. It's really so good that I know eventually I'll get over my resentment.
BUT - I really, really love Tandoori Bites in Durham, too. Their original restaurant was in Wilmington; I used to go there all the time. Not sure if their buffet is back.
Not a buffet question so a bit off topic, wondering if anyone who goes to Taj Mahal has been there recently (past 6 months or so).
Haven't been back in a while - questionable sanitary practices (kids in and out of the kitchen) and a noticeable decline in the dishes on one visit had us going elsewhere. But we like their cuisine style and want to get back there eventually.
Weird, because they actually were when they weren't supposed to be. I dumped them as my fave for that reason.
Edited: they have a Facebook post from July 7 saying their weekday lunch buffet is open.
Edit again: they say on Facebook their weekend buffet is open too.

They were following public guidelines and so it was "buyer beware". I'm betting there are loads of things going on in the world you're not ok with, which is, of course, ok in itself.
It's not like they were flaunting science and common sense, like Big Al's: https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/ral...ules/19156303/. I'll never eat at this place again because I can't help but wonder what other rules they refuse to follow. That and their food was boring (I'm pretty sure they buy their sides from Costco or BJ's as well).

Just because they didn't have a dumbass sign up like Big Al's doesn't mean they weren't flaunting science. A buffet restaurant open last October during the pandemic? Flaunting science. It's an infectious disease. They made it easier for disease to spread. Yep, I take issue with that. I am absolutely fine if 100% of this forum disagrees with me. Unfortunately it seems to be the American way that it's all sorts of survival of the fittest and me, me, me, and there isn't the sense of actions for the common good that exist elsewhere.
Definitely prefer to continue to go to the other restaurants that DID get it.
