I generally agree with you but when it comes to Indian food, for me, the best way to try something is on a buffet. I do love Indian food but even reading the descriptions I hesitate to try anything because I'm not accustomed to combinations of bases and spices.
This is why I enjoy an Indian buffet as well. Dharani in particular had (or maybe now has again) a large selection of veg-friendly dishes (plus plenty of non-veg). Udipi had interesting selections as well - like beet curry (yum!). But not a very large selection at any given time, which is why Dharani wins for me.

Same here, and for those who are anti-buffet (I generally am anti-buffet), Indian food generally lends itself well to buffet. It's not like the Chinese Buffet where noodles are dried out, muscles and clams are chewy and overcooked, and the crablegs are dried out and nasty. Indian food does well
ALDNC07, for veg/vegan Indian Buffet, there is also the Sri-something-something place. They are all vegetarian, I think they are in the same plaza as YinDee (very near Dharani, but not the same plaza). I have not been since pre-pandemic, but I had a coworker who took us there a lot, and he said, and I agree, they were by far the best vegetarian (only) buffet.
Personally, I love(d) Dharani, both veg and meat-dishes, and also agree with the comment that they have good desserts. Guess I need to get back there. :-)
I'm not seeing a notice here.. https://dharanirtp.com/.. but maybe it's been resolved already.
The notice of closure from Dharani comes on the dharanius.com website. It doesn't say where. I'd like to try the RTP location on the weekend some time. Fewer crowds I suppose.
What's the difference between Southern Indian (Dharani) and Northern Indian food?
I'd be VERY surprised if anybody will ever do a traditional buffet again. They may have "modified buffets" where there is a plexiglass screen and somebody will serve you whatever you want, cafeteria-style, but not "serve your own plate" buffets.
Good detective work! I wasn't motivated enough to find it.
