Council approved a resolution allowing E-Bikes on greenways as a pilot. This pilot will be from June 1st until the end of the year. The police department will use two E-Bikes. Currently, motorized vehicles of any kind are prohibited from greenways. Speed limit signs of 15 mph will be posted on greenways.

A disaster waiting to happen. Not only crashes, but anger. And destroying the surface of the “walkways” themselves.

I'm not sure why it would destroy the surface of the greenways, as they are already used by regular bikes. I personally would prefer to walk or bike on the greenways, but I can see how this could be attractive to those with mobility issues.

Fatty with a e-bike here. We don’t go fast. The cyclists who road train 20-30mph on the greenway are far more dangerous.

Also I’m pretty sure I’ve been on Cary’s greenways already and no one cared. We entered one greenway at a Cary park. South side of Umstead.

I was thinking the same thing! It's the Tour de France wannabes that are usually the problem.

As long as folks on bikes, be they electric or not, aren't going too fast and call out, it's all good.

I've ridden on the greenways before with my ebike. Just like any cyclist should, you go slower, you signal and call out "on your left" when coming upon any pedestrian, you give the right of way, and it's always best to avoid crowded times. It's the same behaviors regardless of whether there's pedal assist or not.

Yeah, we’ve been passed by plenty of pedal bikes going that fast so I don’t see the issue. If we could get rid of the idiots with the blinking headlights that you see coming from 2 miles away that would be more helpful to everyone. There’s zero need for that on the trail.

Blinking lights can be turned off on greenways, I agree. However, blinking lights are important for cyclists who ride on the road.

Agree. I've seen people riding e-bikes, I don't really see the issue.
