I'm being funny. However, yes, a fish sandwich at a McDonalds the other day are charging $10 for a 3"x3" piece of fish. Crazy prices, another words for everything it seems.
Not only the expense, but don’t you go for a year with no teeth, while the screws heal? My friend has gone over a year waiting for the implant on one tooth to be finished. No way am I going a year looking like a toothless hag.
I believe there are temporary low cost crowns applied to the post. Not sure you can chew with them. My concern is bone loss. If you have bone loss, apparently many older people like me have this issue, implants do not work. So, new bone needs to be applied some how, driving up the costs. That $30,000 price tag did not include bone work. So who know what it would cost. I've come to the conclusion years ago that leaving the country to have significant dental work performed is the way to save, not the U.S. Anywhere but the U.S.
Dr. Johnson in Durham. 919-471-1589. He partnered with our dentist and bought her out when she retired. He then bought out another retiring dentist. He is young and sharp, stays up on all the procedures and techniques.
Triangle Implant Dentistry, Dr Reebye is the best by any measure. I did not have implants with him but had a tooth pulled by him and it took 30 seconds. My son had 4 wisdom teeth pulled at the same time and took one Advil afterward....only because I insisted. I had a conversation once with his assistant - she was an instructor at the dental school he went to. They both ended up here in NC and she went to work for him - she said he was amazing from his first day of school.
Downside? Billing department is clueless and uncooperative.
Insurance? That depends entirely on YOUR plan - there is no universal dental insurance that all covers the same thing. I happen to have good insurance for dental. Your mileage may vary.
Seconded. I've had FOUR implants with Dr. Reebye, and he can do these in his sleep. With sedation, expect it to cost just north of $4000 per implant (not including crown). Pricey, and worth it if you can swing it.
Most dental plans only have coverage maximums of $1000-$2000 at most.
My best friend had an implant done at Downtown Dental in Raleigh. I think he had Dr. Wells. It was a long and drawn out process with numerous visits to the dentist, a flipper tooth, and was at least $5,000. I think this was maybe 5 or 6 years ago.
The procedure appeared to go fine, however now his implant has come loose and it will have to be completely re-done. Somehow it managed to get infected. He has had to resort to a GoFundMe just to cover the costs because most insurance (his included) has 0% coverage for dental implants - they don't care if you have bone loss or shifting teeth as a result of an extraction.
One can fly first class, stay at a 4 star hotel in a foreign country and still save on implants. In Mexico, the costs of implants is at least 1/3 the cost. There are also dental schools people can check out. One I've heard of is in a US territory, Porto Rico. I've heard it is pretty good and cheaper. I believe this maybe the school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univer...ental_Medicine

A colleague of mine shared about how her parents (mid 60's) traveled to Mexico and for $10K each had full upper/lower implants put in. That procedure actually involved pulling all remaining teeth and going with a four post system instead of one per tooth, so essentially permanent dentures. But it's been nearly a year and they are thrilled with the results.
I should also point out that they needed to make two separate trips and live with a temporary solution that required them to avoid solid foods for a period of time, but they both said they would do it again in a heartbeat.
