I'm curious about the "helping" claim. Like, did she help by leaving the gun in an unlocked safe, or did she help by "oh you want to show your friends a loaded gun, here you go!".
Guns are the problem and they are the leading cause of death of children between 1-17 years in the US. No other developed country has the same issue due to stronger gun laws.
Guns don't shoot by themselves and require a person to pull the trigger. Kids/teens should not be given access to guns...that is the problem which more gun laws won't fix.

Amazingly, either seems feasible.
When and why did the kid have enough unsupervised time to show off the gun to classmates..?? Seems like some adults in the room aren't paying enough attention to what students are doing.

Lunch? Recess? Who knows. Can't keep an eye on every kid at all times.

Have you even been in a school? Arrival in the morning. Lunch time. Recess time. Teacher working with kids in small groups and kids who are supposed to be working independently go to their cubby. Do you think elementary school students are sitting in a classroom being directly instructed for 6.5 hours a day?

When my son was in school they had teacher assistants and parent volunteers helping in the classroom. Hall monitors can be used to monitor hallway activity, lunchtime, recess, and class changes. It's not rocket science and if a kid has enough free time to openly show off a gun to their friends then they're not being properly supervised.
That doesn't change the fact that guns can't fire by themselves (unless your name is Alec Baldwin) and the person behind the gun is the problem.
You still haven’t explained why we have such a difference in shootings compared to other countries. Probably because your argument is as valid as your idea that every kid in an elementary school has eyes on them at all times. I’ve been a parent volunteer and an IA (they haven’t been called TAs in 10 years) and your knowledge is lacking. For starters second grades don’t have full time IAs. Nice pipe dream though. Heck tbere are schools still lacking classroom TEACHERS.
