I lived there for 30 years... Oh, let me count the ways!

Exhibit A: Voters approved prop 47 which decriminalized many drug offenses. This eliminated prosecutors' leverage in mandating drug treatment/rehab in exchange for harsher penalties.

Between generous public assistance, panhandling, all-you-can-steal specials at retailers, open air drug markets, and perfect weather, it's a addict's paradise.

And don't let me go into the decades of draconian environmental policies that make it nearly impossible to build higher density, lower cost housing.

None of these were policies enacted by the legislatures in New York or California.

This is not accurate either.

They were the announced intentions of people running for and who were elected DA among other positions. So yes, people got what they voted for.

The people running for office or those who were elected did NOT state they were for panhandling, all-you-can-steal specials at retailers, or open air drug markets. It is unfortunate that many of the comments on this post contain misinformation.

Engaging that particular poster with facts and logic, is futile. Any differing view, no matter how reasonable, is reflexively branded by them as "misinformation".

I recommend invoking the advice of Proverbs 26:4.

Of course it is. If you just let them camp, you maintain the status quo. You have to take that away as an option. They'll make the right choice after exhausting every other option.

Most of these people are mentally ill. Without dealing with their mental illness, a whole lot of them don’t even take advantage of the services that already are available.
  • "Right to shelter" laws
  • Decriminalization of drugs
  • "Catch and release" court systems with low/no bail
  • Increasing the felony larceny threshold to $950+
  • Refusal to increase housing density upwards (GoreBULL warming)
  • Refusal to arrest and incarcerate/involuntarily commit those with the most severe addictions and/or mental illnesses

That may be how you want it to work, but it does not reflect what happens in reality. It is a multi-faceted issue that requires a number of different approaches based on individual situations.

Your comments sound Hitler-ish or Stalinesque. What's the 'right' choice? They're probably already making it.

Our modern society sucks. A vacuous society of greed and duplicity. I think we're just seeing the beginning of what's to come.

There are a bunch of camps @ Umstead Park, you can see them from 40. I would be careful hiking the trails in there in case you get ambushed.
