Hello... I am moving to Raleigh this fall. I am 23 and in college .. so I do not know too much about the moving costs yet.

What are all the charges, fees, etc. that I will be looking at spending upon arrival?

I have a 2008 Honda Accord LX coupe which is a lease here in Florida if that helps any...

Im seeking license fees, taxes, etc..

I have not looked into this much but, I would like to start.

you have 30 days to register your car and insurance in NC unless you want to keep it registered wherever your parents are. That will include license and registration as well as tax on your car (payable yearly). I can't remember the exact number, maybe some help from the peanut gallery? dmv.nc.us.gov should have more details - if that's not the right site, google dmv, NC, and you should be able to find it easily. I think you will be tagged the retail price less depreciation on your car. Again, alternatively, you can keep it registered where your parents live since you are a temporary resident (I believe this to be true - you should also be able to gooogle that)

Good luck and welcome to the triangle!

Personally if you aren't buying property (and even if you are) keep your FL license and keep your car registered there as long as you can. When you call up to get a new registration sticker they will send you the sticker wherever you want it to be sent. Also the tax you will pay on your car in NC is quite a bit - FL doesn't have personal property tax on cars. Not sure if you are concerned or not but just an FYI. FL is very easy on out of state residents.

Ah well that will definitely change things, you will certainly save much more money with in state tuition (I can imagine) than a couple hundred bucks a year on car inspections and taxes.

Probably the best way is just to call the local DMV and ask them.

I don't think you will be able to get away with the 15%. You MAY be able to find an inspector to pass it. But a cop in a bad mood will likely get you. My friend got 20% and already had 2% so at 18% she has been warned. I am not sure what my boyfriend had before years ago but they had him remove it. It was probably was about 15%. Over the summer he got 20% and hasn't been bothered yet.
