There are conservative churches, liberal churches, Catholic churches, temples & synagogues, it runs the gamut.
I have written it before but so far we have gotten along really well with the Seminary students we have met- sure they pray before every meal but they do not proseletyze to us, they are willing to talk about our denomination (the more liberal Episcopalian one!) and we get along just fine.

You don't have them knocking on your door? Dear me...we get them at least once a week.

Which ones knock on your door? I've been here 6 years, and had oly one visit by Mormons and one visit by Jehovah's Witnesses. And I work from home most of the time!

Baptist Seminary Students.....the seminary considers Wake Forest a 'mission' ....lol.....they are here to save the wicked town.

Never have had any JWs down here and the Mormon's stopped by once. I don't mind them, they are always polite and take 'I am not interested' as actually meaning you're not interested. I normally offer them lemonade or water.

No! And there are 2 grad students from teh seminary in our complex of 12 units!!!!
Maybe b/c they know we are Episcopalian?

I dunno.
I see the mormons bicycling around but they have yet to stop here.

It is interesting that we live so near to each other & are having different experiences of them.
Reminds me of the orthodox jews I used to work with. We were really friendly, but there was always a bit of a "wall"... b/c I will never be able to agree on stuff , like the role of women, for example, which to me is subservient bu tto them it is an honor.
Of course, unlike Baptists, who want to share their lifestyle, orthodox jews believe they are born to it & do not want to proseletize.

I really dont know what everyones deal is with **gasp** someone knocking on your door with only the best of intentions in their hearts!

I would prefer a 'religiuos' person knocking on my door anyday over some sales person or a criminal who doesnt prefer knocking but busting down the door.

I can remember 2 or 3 people (Ive lived in NC my whole life) knock on my door during my lifetime whose intent was to reach the Gospel to other people. One was a Mormon, the other two were Christian. Never was an inconvenience to me and they were much more polite than most people I encounter in everyday life here.

Um...yea....I guess I'd prefer a religious person knocking on my door over a robber. Or the IRS. Or killer bees.....

Just to be clear...Mormon's are Christians too.

I wouldn't mind once-a-year visits....but weekly? That seems excessive, regardless of intentions.

Who says they have the best of intentions? I certainly don't know that. And you are building a strawman argument....who has said they'd rather have a criminal at their door? We are speaking of missionaries, not crime rates, they have nothing to do with each other (that I know of).

However, I think it is rude to be interrupted in my own home when I have not indicated in any way that I am interested in what they are pushing...be it religion or magazines. It becomes old quick when it is happening regularly at dinner time, when working from home, in the middle of a project, etc etc etc. If was only 3 times in my entire life I wouldn't be too upset either....but it's every other week for the most part.

Our subdivision has put up 'no solication' signs....this has stopped the sales calls, but for some reason the religous groups think it doesn't apply to them.

PS: Mormons are Christian....they beleive Jesus Christ is their saviour, just like you do.

Default Religious people are sales people

It can be pretty annoying when you're concentrating and studying for a test and they knock on your door. Or, when you're in the middle of a five mile run (my meditation time) and they stop you in the street on the pretense of asking for directions and then ask, "Has anyone ever talked to you about God?" They got an earful that time. What's the difference between a person selling pizza and a person selling religion. As far as I'm concerned they're the same. They've forced me to post a "No Soliciting" sign on my door. If there's any emergency, no problem with knocking on my door. My neighbors can knock on my door. The rest stay away.
