There's a Stitch & B*tch group that meets on Tuesday's from 7-9p at Foster's Market (http://www.fostersmarket.com/) (broken link). I haven't been to this gathering before myself, but in my experience the SnB ladies tend to be very nice. Keep in mind, of course that SnB-ers tend to be younger & edgier, but I'm sure they'll be very sweet & welcoming.
You can also do a search for the yarn stores in Chapel Hill. The owners would be happy to tell you about the local knitting clubs. Try Yarns Etc. (http://www.yarnsetc.com/) (broken link).
I just donated all of my yarn to the local Senior Center today as I had accumulated a lot from unfinished projects. I decided that if I haven't used it up now I probably never will so rather than schlep it all the way to Chapel Hill I'll buy more when I get down there and start a fun new crochet or knitting project once I am settled. Glad to hear there are a lot of knitters in the area.
Wow, you donated your wool?! I can't imagine doing such a thing (despite the fact that I will never use 90% of it). I'm sure it will go to good use in its new home
Have you read "Meditations for Women who Knit Too Much"?
So glad this thread was initiated! I've been reading this forum since Nov. and never had the 'courage' to ask about my fellow knitsters in the Triangle Area. I just arrived in Chapel Hill today with my family to go house hunting around the elementary schools of interest. I'll definitely be checking out the LYS and would love to meet up with some knitters while I'm here. I'll have to check out SnB or Foster's tomorrow evening. I can't even think about buying yarn as my stash runneth over, but I hope to meet some folks who can give me some insight into the area from a parent's POV. I'll let you know! Thanks for this post!
I am also looking for a knitting group in Chapel Hill or Pittsboro. I also have a pile of Knitters magazines that I want to donate, does anyone know of someone working on knitting projects or charity that could use these mags. Very good condition.
Ravelry is a good place to find groups. I go to an SnB group at Open Eye on Monday nights on occasion, and there's also the Carolina Flyers knitting group in Raleigh that meets on Sundays at the Flying Saucer.
