I start making my own ice cream at home and to me nothing beat what you made from scratch with only fresh and all natural ingredients . It is fun and you can always make a good vanilla base and ad chunks of whatever you like .
I have see Blue Bell Ice cream sold in West Jefferson NC but at more then 3 hours drive from Cary ,that will not work .
Good luck finding it .

I have to laugh at this thread. I was in South Florida over Christmas break and was shopping in Publix. What did I see in the ice cream aisle? Blue Bell ice cream. Dozens of flavors. I had to buy it after hearing SO MUCH about it on this thread. I got two flavors - party cake and mint chocolate chip. They both tasted very good, BUT it is quite disappointing that they are made with artificial flavors and colors, etc. But I can see why people get addicted.
For those that missed past messages about where to find it locally, you can get it at the Mebane Walmart, and I think someone else mentioned finding it in Pittsboro or somewhere down that way?
I had missed this, but saw the Graeter's post. This news makes my day. We're really excited over here!
For everyone who has always wondered what the fuss is, you'll have to try it. However, I always have a recommendation for people who want to try Blue Bell: try their "unique" flavors. The "typical" flavors they offer are definitely very good, but they do a great job making up good, new flavors. Almond Pistachio is a good example. They make a Banana Pudding ice-cream that is amazing. Their Strawberry Cheesecake has real, whole strawberries with real pieces of cheesecake. Plus, Blue Bell still sells in 1-gallon sizes, so you get a ton of ice-cream.
Another Okie here!! When I first moved here 5 years ago, I kept looking for Blue Bell and never found it. I told my hubby about it and he kept thinking I was talking about Blue Bunny...uhhhhh no! I sure do miss it too!

Nothing beats their Homemade Vanilla, IMHO. Pralines & Cream is another classic.
This makes me happy - no more hauling coolers to Pittsboro!
I start making my own ice cream and it taste wonderful . At least it is really all natural and made with the freshest and best ingredients . I bought an attachment to my Kitchen Aid and it works very well . Sure it is work but it is worth it .Start with a vanilla base and then ad whatever you like in it .

I wish you good luck finding that brand around here .

As frankpc posted, it will be sold locally starting in March. It's already not far from the Triangle, in Pittsboro.
I like homemade as well; (Alton Brown's chocolate ice cream is amazing. However, I don't always feel like making it myself, and Blue Bell is a sentimental favorite.

I've started doing this too. Can make whatever flavor my heart desires I've found I don't really like the Kitchenaid attachment though. Very messy. I wish I have gotten the stand alone Cuisinart one. It's cheaper than the Kitchenaid one too!
Raleigh News and Observer (2/17/12) reports that Blue Bell is considering a new distribution center in Morrisville. There is no time line provided, so it may take up to a year. But BB is coming to the area. Thanks to everyone for the support and effort for this objective.
