I am itching to take some pictures and may have an opportunity to venture over to Chapel Hill this weekend. I've taken picutres fo Franklin Street before and am now looking for ideas on neighborhoods to photograph. Any ideas? I am interested in both typical neighborhoods and fancy neighborhoods. I'm basically looking to get the overall flavor of the different options available in Chapel Hill.

Thanks!

I think the cloggers will be performing at the Bynum front porch store at 7:00 PM. That's about 10 minutes from Chapel Hill.

Meadowmont for sure
I am not sure if you can get in the gate at Governor's Club...maybe if you say you are looking at Real Estate?

Carol Woods Retirement Community on Weaver Dairy Road. It's a beautiful campus.

Go through the old hoods north of Franklin St, and go find Gimghoul Castle.

One neighborhood to consider is Southern Village (off 15-501 on the south end of Chapel Hill).

Sigh. Meadowmont and Southern Village? Just go take pictures of Cary.

Here's a representative slice of Chapel Hill/Carrboro
Chapel Hill

Colony Woods - 60/70s (200-350K) relatively affordable area of Chapel Hill
Lake Forest 50/70s (300-1M+)
Estes/Elliot Rd area 50/70s (300-600K)
Glandon/Gimghoul 20s/40s (1M+)
Boundary St/Tenney Circle 1900-30s (800+)
Northside/Greenbridge development...historically african american part of town on edge of Carrboro, built in 40/60s. Dominated by rentals now, and ginormous greenbridge development plunked down on the edge of it.

Carrboro

Greensboro St North of Weaver...several of the old 20s/30s era shotgun houses on the east side of the street as you head north from southern states
Poplar St has a nice mix of old and newer (60s homes)
You'll see a huge variety of homes on Pine, Oak and Cheek streets, ranging from student rentals to new mcmansions which reflect the cost of land in the area.
Bolin Forest is one of my favorite Carrboro neighborhoods...heavily wooded neighborhood, smaller houses (under 1800 sq ft), built in 80s, prices under 300k. Off of greensboro after you pass estes

If the lighting is right and you're good with these kinds of shots, the big construction projects on NC 54 and Rosemary could be cool. The former is getting very near to completion. Both would be nice to document, especially in contrast to their much older, more established surroundings.

There are some beautiful houses in Chapel Hill that are right near the campus. To reach the neighborhood, take NC 54 west, go under the bridge (15/501) and up the hill toward campus. At the light on the top of the hill, turn left (I believe it's Country Club Road). Veer off to the left when you make that turn and just start driving around. The houses are amazing. Truly unique architectural gems.

Maple View Farms in Hillsborough could make for some nice shots, again, if the weather is right and the sun is not too bright. It's only about 10-15 minute drive from Carrboro.

Definitely spend some time in Carrboro if you haven't yet. There's lots to photograph there (here for me!) as well.

I really like Fair Oaks... tons of trees, some interestingly painted houses. Cool Chapel Hill feel.

Southern Village and Meadowmont? UGH! You can just get stock photos of "upscale development" off the web!

Take pictures of the neighborhood off Franklin St. called Boundary Street. It is GORGEOUS. My favorite neighborhood in CH.

Gimghoul is a great one also.

Some of the homes in Lake Forest are beautiful, and blend into the treed neighborhood really well. The ones on the lake are especially fabulous.

The other neighborhood I absolutely love is The Oaks. Some of it is newer, but the older parts are beautiful. It can be reached from 15-501 or reached from Meadowmont (but is NOT meadowmont-ish!).

Those are my personal favorites.
