I'm looking for a high school for my son Bill aged 13 and interested in computers. He lives out of state and will attend 9th Grade in RTP area in 2010. Bill is a very gifted child especially in technology. Any ideas of excellent engineering academies in RTP area would help.
Thanking you in advance for your advice, Daniel

The North Carolina School of Science and Math. I know a few graduates from there ... they're smart folks.

NCSSM | Fast Facts (http://www.ncssm.edu/about-ncssm/facts.php - broken link)

Sorry - missed the "entering the 9th grade" ... NCSSM is juniors and seniors only (dorm school). But consider it for in a couple of years.

Frank

You might consider applying to Cary Academy - they are strong in Math and are tech savvy. They issue laptops to their incoming sixth graders and integrate technology throughout their curriculum.
They just posted this blurb:
Math team starts 2010 #1 in country
Posted 01/05/2010 01:22PM
CA's math team currently is in first place in the national Math League.
With 88 points, CA has a one-point lead over Central High School in Nebraska and Raleigh's Enloe High School.

The other option is Enloe High School in Wake County - it is a magnet, and kids are chosen by lottery. You might also throw your number in for Raleigh Charter Academy.

The application process for Cary Academy is closing shortly (by end of month?) and the application period for Enloe is in February for existing students - The app process for Raleigh Charter is in the Feb time frame as well. I think you hear from all in March.

Best of Luck!

Durham Public Schools has a couple of smaller High Schools dedicated to Engineering and Technology;
Southern School of Engineering — Durham Public Schools
Hillside New Tech High School — Durham Public Schools

They are actually smaller High Schools that operate on the campuses of larger ones
