Agree that it is not unique to Raleigh- I've seen in Massachusetts as well. I find it amusing and not sure how all the customers actually pick which one to go to.

It does appear to have a fetish for this There is a Walgreen's at New Hope Rd/New Bern and they are building a CVS across from it. Yet, there is a CVS 2 miles(?) away across from Wake Med.

Clearly their strategy works....whoda thunk??

I agree it is not unique in Raleigh. Was in Florida recently, for the first time in two years...it seems a drug store or two or three had sprouted on every corner.

Maybe that's why Walgreen's and CVS are so expensive.

It's definitely not unique to Raleigh or the Triangle.

It has been happening in the Dallas, TX area for years, and was just beginning in Great Falls and Helena, MT when I moved from there a month ago.

I'd just like to add that a whole lot of people give the drug companies a hard time about gouging customers. I wonder who is financing the build-out of all these new locations ? Rite Aid's finances have been shaky for years. I'm willing to bet the reason theirs wasn't build was more a function of not being able to secure the funds to do it.

Right before Walgreens and CVS were building their stores in Raleigh, I noticed the same thing in Florida.

Seems strange to have the two of them on each and every corner and I also wondered how they could afford those nice big stores. Some of them even have groceries now!

I don't think it is only our area...I think the two companies have been building more stores in many areas.

Vicki

Might be a good idea to "direct" our kids toward the path of Pharmacy School!

The frustrating thing to me is that you can't always find one open easily. I have 4 within a couple of miles of me but once when I needed something OTC for my daughter I had to drive 20min to get to a 24-hour store at like 10pm. So I have lots of prime corner retail taken up by these chain drug stores with very limited pharmacy or store hours. UGH.
