I think it's more likely that homeownership is important to these friends and family, and they just don't understand yet that it's not important right now to the OP. They just don't understand his thought process.

And the funny part? Even if you explain to them exactly how you feel, and even if they seem to get it at the time, they still may bring it up again a month or two later - because it's such a foreign concept to them. Doesn't everyone want to own a great big home in a suburb? Um no. But good luck truly and permanently getting through to anyone who believes that!

Haven't had time to read all of the replies until now. Thank you everyone for responding. Some of the posts were very informative (and very entertaining!)

I guess to clarify things, I'm a pretty headstrong person who usually has no problem telling people to BACK OFF if need be. I guess listening to all these people, watching people my age on "House Hunters," hearing all these "experts" on the news saying BUY BUY BUY kind of got in my head a little. Although I'm not saying it's right, it's just human nature to compare yourself to others and feel like you are not where you should be in big game of life.

Like I stated in my original post, I live in a part of the country where its common for people at 26 to not only have homes, but be married, have at least one child, etc. So I'm very happy to get differing perspectives on here. I can see how so many put common sense aside and got caught up in the madness of the 2000's real estate boom.

Ironically, my building sustained a lightning strike about 4 weeks ago and I've been having crazy electrical issues. My landlord is out about $1,000 just for my unit to get everything fixed. The good news is its not coming out of MY pocket!

This is a good enough reason(s) not to buy.

manderly6 is usually right, but I'm really surprised at the low number of responses.

Sit tight and stay where you are; as long as your apartment makes YOU happy while leaving enough $$$ in your bank account to do what YOU want to do as it applies to travel, vacation, splurges and the like, do what makes YOU happy, and ignore those folks in your social circle.
