It's not cheaper than all of the Bay Area. I'm sure you could get something cheaper in Richmond or Vallejo.

True, but then I live in Oxnard California. A lot of places are higher priced then Oxnard. Many are much less then Oxnard. Move my house to Santa Barbara just north of where it sits, and you suddenly are in the $600,000 and up range. Move my home to Bakersfield and it goes down to the $200,000 range or lower. The truth is that many Santa Barbara kids that are looking for a similar life as their parents will move to Ventura and Oxnard so that they can afford a less costly home and still be within 45 minutes of their parents home.

This seems like as good as spot as any to post this. Sorry in advance for hi jacking the blog. I am considering buying a home in grosse pointe woods and am wondering what people think of the area? Is it going down the drain? I heard on the news that the pointes are experiencing a "rash" of break ins? Anyone with any inside knowledge of the pointes are welcome.

thanks

It's not. You'll have much better luck on the Michigan or maybe Detroit forums.

lol, i'm from Detroit. Grosse Pointe is a great part of Detroit as is Bloomfield Hills, Rochester Hills, West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills, etc.

Those area are great in the sense that houses are nice, lot sizes are big so you're not living right next to your neighbor, parks everywhere, safe, sidewalks to ride your bike, etc.

The bay area is nice but as a kid, growing up in suburban Detroit can't be beat.

Move the tech industry to Grosse Point Michigan and see what happens.

Real Estate is reflective of the local economic metabolism. The reason Bay Area homes cost a ton is because its a perfect storm of desirable location, metropolis and sky-high paying white collar jobs.

It's amazing to me that anybody with even a trace of knowledge of each area would ask such a question.
