My house has been on the market for 5 and 1/2 months and has had over 60 showings. According to numerous brokers it is priced fair, all of the agents showing the house love it but we have not had an offer yet. Other comparable houses are selling quickly within the price range (at least) or even significantly higher. I live in an upper class "white" neighborhood (99%+ "white) and my house is listed at 849k. I have no problem with Spanish or any "non-white" neighbors. However I'm concerned the potential buyers might have an issue?. Our neighbors have a big Puerto Rican Flag hanging outside their house. They are great neighbors, really friendly and we get along with them well....but I'm starting to think the potential buyers may not be so open to that in a 99%+ "white" neighborhood. I'm sure if the neighbors were the issue/problem the buyers would not disclose that reason with their or my broker but would make up another excuse so there is no way for me to know for sure. Whenever our broker gives us negative feedback it is something very minor. Is it possible our house is not selling because of neighbors? Please don't get me wrong, I judge people on character, not race, but I'm not sure if other people looking to buy in my neighborhood feel the same.
I doubt all 60 showings didn't buy because of the neighbors flag. one or two bigoted buyers perhaps even ten might find that a reason to not buy your house but not 60. something is off. it is the price, or the ay your house is staged or something. perhaps it is time for a new realtor?
Seriously, I don't see any reason to jump to the conclusion that your neighbors' country/territory of origin is the problem. Around here, anyway, most people couldn't care less. Are your neighbors also loud and do they refuse to cut the grass? That could be a problem (here).
There are so many other reasons why a home might not sell quickly, having nothing to do with your neighbors. Perhaps the right buyer just has not yet seen your home. Good luck to you in selling it soon.
Spanish is not a race. Spanish is a nationality referring to residents of Spain. People of Spain are considered Caucasian or "White." If the buyers looking at your house have the same misinformation that you have, than the answer is yes. Maybe they are not buying because of a flag of Puerto Rico flying nearby.
At the risk of being labeled a racist (which I don't consider myself to be and hope I am not), many "white" people look for a predominantly "white" neighborhood in which to buy because they feel more comfortable being with people of the same race they are. I would also think this would apply to many blacks, Latinos, etc., but I could be wrong, of course.
I personally don't care what race or nationality my neighbors are, but I must admit that based on my experience, I would not buy a house next door to a house that had a Mexican flag hanging on it because in my experience, people with Mexican ancestry who are proud enough of that to hang a Mexican flag usually -- or at least often -- have Spanish/Hispanic/Latino music blaring from their cars and garages. (And just for the record, I dislike ANY kind of loud music blaring next to my home!) I don't know if this applies to people from Puerto Rico or any other predominantly Spanish-speaking country, though. (And, yes, I do know that many people in PR speak English, but most speak Spanish and are not fluent in English.)
And, yes, I also know that a certain class of WASP can be at least as obnoxious as people of any other race or heritage -- and this applies to both their fondness for loud music and otherwise!!

Yeah, I can't see that either. You said the negative feedback are for very minor things, what are they? Do you have an electrical tower somewhere? On a busy street or an entrance road? Do you back up to a busy street? Yard fenced in? Landscaping done nicely? Is your price per sq ft on par with nearby comparables? Any animals in the house? Reasons are numerous. But I seriously doubt 60 people all have said heck no simply because there's a PR flag waving next door. Unless that house is an eyesore?

At the risk of offending you, yes you definitely sound like a racist.
First, a flag from Puerto Rico is akin to a state flag or more accurately a flag from Guam, the US Virgin Island, or American Samoa. If the presence of a state or territory flag upsets a person, they probably would be just as upset with the flag from the United States of America flying as well. They are all US Citizens by birth.
In my opinion, I would have more trouble with a flag from Texas, or Utah before I worry over a flag from a US Territory. As an FYI equating Puerto Rico to Mexico is like equating Haiti with Quebec just because they speak french.
The issue isn't the neighbors or their flag, the issue based on the total showing is most likely an overpriced house.
Our neighbors have a big Puerto Rican Flag hanging outside their house. They are great neighbors,.
Please describe the flag more. What size? How is this hanging?
Is this a flag in a holder on the side of a house? Or is this a massive flag hanging from a pole? Or is it a huge flag displayed from a window in the side of the home?
