My husband does all the decorations. We actually have very few personal pictures on the walls. Most of the house looks like this. Here is the formal living room. Can we leave decors like that painting on the walls or take them off too?
I have nothing new to add and agree with others regarding taking down personal photos but wanted to say I love the dog pillow. Do you know where it is from?
Screw PC. I'm not here to be coddled. Please be honest.
We are a married gay couple. Will be selling house in a few months. Should we take down our pictures or leave them up for staging?
Again, please be honest.
You should remove them and it has nothing to do with being gay. People want to imagine themselves living in your home and that's hard to do with your family's pics there. When I sold my houses, on the realtors' advice, I always removed all family photos and packed them away.
Ok, take down the pictures. But what about our clothes in the closet?
My realtor told me to take about 1/2 the clothes out so it looks spacious.
Nothing on the floors.
It gives the illusion of extra space/bigger closet regardless of the size of the closet.
If you mean, "should we try to cover up who lives there" , don't give that a thought..
No personal photos or religious items just allows the buyers to envision themselves living there.
What is special to one can be creepy to another. Two examples come to mind.
1)The Crucifix is sacred to some and disturbing to others.
2) I have friends with a poster sized closeup photo up of the dad without a shirt on & his newborn baby.
I swear it looks like porn at a glance
It's just a clean slate you want. I would not leave up photos of me at the shooting range either.
Best advice my realtor gave me was to rent a storage unit and put half my stuff in it.
BTW I had 2 offers over asking price the first day on the market.
I don't disagree, but that doesn't mean I don't routinely see listings with crosses on the walls.
Well, some people don’t listen either. Had a guy sell a unit in a building I worked in, the place was a mess. He was “trying to pack” — he was a hoarder — and all the pictures were loaded with stuff and boxes and wads of newspapers.
It sold in a couple of weeks, because that’s what happens here, but it sold for a lot less than he could have gotten if he had rented a storage facility, packed 3/4 of his crap away, and cleaned.

The decor looks great. I agree with removing the side table to make it look more spacious. The painting looks nice.
