Would this be a case of the land & location being worth more than the brick & mortar? True it's her property now she can do what she wants but in 10 years she also would've had a100 year old house that might have been a selling point.
I wasn’t aware she was that rich. I’ve seen her on commercials and I know she was in the news for divorcing Affleck, is that where she got all that money?
Someone paid 600 million for the original British embassy in Bangkok on 9.5 Acres.. not a trace left. Look at any major city or place where land is precious, and a good portion of real estate would be worth more without the building on it. People building large custom homes on cheap land are fools, if they want appreciation. And do t forget the last housing bust.. The brand new homes in the exhurbs got crushed, while the Sears homes from the 30s on 6000 sf lots held up much better.

My uncle had a house on the island of Martha's Vineyard just off the coast of MA. He sold it for $4M to some family from NYC who said they were going to renovate it and might take down a wall or two. They ended up tearing the whole thing down and starting over.
I'm curious what the house she's demolishing was like and it was probably a shame that she did that. However, it's her property and excepting local codes and laws she can pretty much do whatever she wants with it. Just because the numbers seem big to you doesn't mean they are to her.
