Picked up a frozen filet of sable fish at Trader Joe's and finally got around to trying it. Patted the filet dry, and simply smeared it with red miso paste. Pan fried it in a little olive oil. It was.....

SUBLIME. Rich and buttery, yet at the same time light. No 'fishy' flavor. It is marketed as a fish similar to Chilean sea bass but more sustainable. It wasn't as cheap as sole, but it wasn't as expensive as halibut either.

Winner, winner, fish dinner! Anyone else try sable fish before? Share a prep method?

I've bought it from fish markets already smoked and eat it cold. Yum!

I've never had or heard of sable fish before. But that recipe of your's sounds really, really good. I'll look for it next time I'm at Trader Joe's.

If you have to go to Trader Joe's it's a bit of a hard to find item, then. I have sure never seen sable fish anywhere.

Going to Trader Joe's isn't hard at all, I have three different ones within a five mile radius of my home. I suspect in areas that don't have a TJ's, Whole Foods might be a reasonable facsimile but I suspect pricier too.

You can often find smoked sable at kosher markets that also sell lox (smoked salmon) and smoked carp.

Some bagel shops also carry it.

There are none for miles where I live. I'm glad people are finding this fish elsewhere.
