I buy a commercial package of premade slaw mix and add these ingredients to it.

Some people like to use salt and pepper to this. I prefer white pepper and celery seeds in my coleslaw, but you don't have to add anything more than the three ingredients listed to have a really great slaw.

I'm thinkin' a little grated onion and caraway seeds would be interesting additions

3 teas. vinegar

I use this one all the time.

KFC CLONE COLE SLAW
8 cups finely chopped cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 cup shredded carrot (1 medium carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onion
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice

1. Be sure cabbage and carrots are chopped up into very fine pieces (about the size of rice). 2. Combine the sugar, salt, pepper, milk, mayonnaise, buttermilk, vinegar, and lemon juice in a large bowl and beat until smooth. 3. Add the cabbage, carrots, and onion, and mix well. 4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serves 10-12.

my dad makes a sort of slaw. its a green and purple cabbage, shredded then adds lemon, oi,l salt, maybe a red onion--it's so refreshing--and not "heavy" like the mayo type. it's good on a hot day--you can keep it out

I cannot stand sweet or creamy coleslaw. Yuck! No mayonaise or sugar in the slaw my family likes. My mom would make it with just simple shredded cabbage (green or purple), oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. If we had leftover anchovies, she'd chop those up too. Yummy!

I love the sweet and creamy cole slaw you get as a sandwich side at some delis. The cabbage is cut in long, very thin strips.Tiny strips of carrot. I would love to find a recipe for that kind.

Try this recipe:

Cheap and Easy Recipe - Coleslaw - Children Like This Because There Is No Onion

My kids have eaten it since they were really small and far prefer it to any other coleslaw they ever have.

Sorry about my first post above. I haven't quite got the hang of including web addresses. The recipes is:

Approximately 500 gm (about one pound) cabbage, very finely grated
2 carrots grated
1 red apple, finely chopped
Sufficient mayonnaise to hold it all together.

Just mix it all together, not using too much mayo or it will be unhealthy.
