Well it’s almost that time of the year again.... Let’s get some good side dish and dessert recipes on here! I need to steal some and force my wife into making some new things

Hope everyone is staying safe during the holiday season and able to enjoy it with some of their family during this craziness.

My Aunt Pearl's baked onions

Slice up enough yellow onions to fill the small roasting pan (or the crock pot). Dot with a full cube (1/4 pound) of dairy butter. Grate on some freshly ground black pepper, cover tightly, and cook on lowish heat until the onions are caramelized. It takes a couple of hours.

These onions go wonderfully with the standard roast turkey dinner and they go quite nicely with just about anything else you might want to cook.

A non-traditional but yummy dessert is sliced pound cake, browned with butter in a pan, then served with ice cream, warmed chocolate syrup and a dollop of whipped cream on top.

Found this one a couple years ago and it’s become a family favorite.

Orange Glazed Butternut Squash with Brussel Sprouts and Pecans

And if you want throw caution (and your diet) to the wind, this is an absolutely decadent alternate dessert if you have heathens that don’t like pumpkin pie in your family like I do in mine.

Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Rum Cinnamon Sauce

I always make a sweet potato pie. I just follow a standard pumpkin pie recipe but instead of canned pumpkin use freshly baked sweet potato. I also add in half of one of those little tiny bottles of Bourbon, and drink the rest. Frozen crust from the supermarket works just fine.

Crusty corn Casserole:

1 1/4 cups fine cracker crumbs (they come in a box)
1/2 cup melted butter (for bottom and sides of dish)
1/4 cup finely chopped green peppers
2 tbsp chopped onion
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 cup whole milk
1 can of corn drained well
1/2 tsp sugar
2 eggs slightly beaten

Add crums to melted butter, press mixture on sides and on the bottom pf a 9 inch pie plate, saving 1/4 cup of the crumb mixture for the topping. Cook pepper and onions in 2 tbsp of butter, add flour, cook until bubbly. Add milk and stir until thick. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into crust then top with remaining bread crumbs. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Knife should come out clean when testing.

Haven't had this in a longtime. We stopped making it because the people who like it don't come over for thanksgiving and I am the only one now who eats it.

Cranberry cream cheese mold

2 packages cream cheese (8 0z.)
2 Tbsp. Mayo
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 can whole cranberries
1/2 pt. Heavy cream whipped
1 can crushed pineapple drained
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (you can leave them out if there are nut allergies in the family)
2 small aluminum loaf pans

With an electric mixer, blend first 3 ingredients. Add fruit and nuts. Fold in whipped cream. Pour into 2 small loaf pans. Cover with foil and freeze. To serve remove from freezer, pull sides away from pan. Allow to stand for a few minutes, shake out the mold onto a nice plate.

This would be a good spread for bagels or any homemade bread, even crackers.
