I recently started using an online dating site. I haven't done that in years. If you send a message and you know the person has signed in and read it, what's the normal window of time for responding back? This is given that there hasn't been an emergency or something out of the ordinary happening.

To take guesswork out of it, how long do YOU take to respond, if you ever do? I'm going to assume the "lead" get stale after a week, although some people may contact after that long.

Well, I am not any online dating sites but with texting, pm:s and e-mails I answer back right away when I know what I say. Sometimes I answer after reading, sometimes I have to think longer.

I answered by the next three days, because sometimes there is a lot to read and it has to settle in. Sites like ok cupid have a lot of info, even more than whats written in your profile. Like you can sometimes read 100 answers to specific questions. But the longer it takes for me to respond back, the more it looks like I can't decide if I want to.

Once you have decided that you want to respond, then you should respond immediately. Otherwise you are playing a game.

Uh, how about right away? Why are you waiting to answer back? Is there some type of rule that says that you have to wait a certain amount of time or you look desperate?

I wouldn't go by any rules and just answer right away.
