No I don't have any girl daughters, haha, thank god. But it seems a lot of states -- thank god -- do take into consideration relative ages. It seems from reading the laws, most of them. In other words, the age of consent is somewhat flexible. It may be 16, but if the guy is within 4 years, then it's ok. It would as anyone can agree I think provide a rather ridiculous situation if the guy is dating the girl for two years, he turns 18 first, she is still 17, and then suddenly what they've been doing for the last two years becomes illegal because she's 2 months younger. That would not be the intent of the law at all. So a lot of states realize that and make allowances, which is only fair. The point is really to prevent a 40-year-old from praying on a 16-year-old, not to prevent a 17-year-old from having sex with a 16-year-old, for instance.
Parents, I'm sure, would rather their kids don't have sex at all I don't blame them, really.
I don't need to provide stats, you can look around yourself. Check agent of consent on other countries besides the U.S. Do you even think most of Africa has such laws? No, they don't. Most of Europe you'd also find is about 16. Canada sure isn't 18, check that if you want. I can't do your research for you, but I did just look it up. Mexico is 12 in some places, up to 15 or 16 I think, but they start young. I'm not saying that's right, 12 is ludicrous, when I heard that from my philosophy professor who had just been down there teaching I said no way, you must be mistaken. He said go look it up! So I did, and sure enough, it was 12 in Mexico City. I was kind of shocked. I mean, I think 18 is ridiculous, that's way too old, and I think 12 is equally silly, it's too young. I think 15 or 16 is the sweet spot for an age of consent. I don't think it should be against the law for a guy to have sex with a 16-year-old. It isn't most places, and it isn't in most times either, well, ok all times besides now, haha.
The Delaware thing -- easy to understand, as was said, over 30, the age of consent is 18. Under 30, it's 16. What is hard to get here? It's very easy, I read the statute myself before you guys dug it up. It's not complicated
I'm not gonna get into all this, but when people watch "teenage" porn, I think most people are aware that those girls really aren't teens...
I'll also add in that I don't think 17 with a 13 year old isn't too bad... college students date high schoolers sometimes (so a high schooler with a middle schooler isn't too crazy either I would think), now maybe a college student dating a middle schooler or a high school student dating an elementary schooler might have me thinking what the heck is going on.
You have to take the individuals into consideration and can't make blanket generalizations and sometimes people interpret the law too strictly in my opinion.
Kinda random but not sure if any of you remember this incident:

I do get it....Under age of 18 is classified as a "child" by law in Delaware, yet legal to have sex with someone under the age of 30 without legal consequences, they are still no less a child by Delaware laws. It doesn't make sense, but true.
I think 15 or 16 is the sweet spot for an age of consent.
Haaahaaahaaahhaaaa... Freud would be proud.
When I was a teenager the age of consent in Canada was 14 but later was switched to 16. I knew a 14 year old girl who told me she was banging every college age (and up) guy she could get her hands on before the law changed and she'd have to wait 2 years before she could start again
You know, for anyone who's worried about 'accidentally' having illegal sex with a minor. You can solve that by marrying the girl. If she and/or her parents lie to the judge when you're getting the marriage license you'd have a pretty good basis for an argument that you believed she was legal
I was speaking to a friend recently who confessed to me that he lost his virginity when he was 17 – to a 13 year old girl.
He told me she didn’t look or act 13, and was already experienced – somehow this was supposed to make it ok.
I told him I didn’t care, she was a damn child and he shouldn’t have slept with her. He argued that he was a horny teenage boy and his hands were tied, but I am still pretty disgusted. He is in his late 30’s now, but ever since he confessed this to me, every time I have seen him even LOOK at a teenage girl I shudder.
What do you make of this? Am I overreacting or do I have a reason to feel this way?
Parents?
Did he know how old she was at the time? I can't tell from your story.
Hugh Hefner is an irrelevant example to me. That's like saying “why can’t I own zoo animals? Michael Jackson did!”
Oh my gosh of course! But at least I can look back on those choices I made at 17 and see what I did maybe wasn’t the best thing I should be doing.
It's not about the fact that Hugh Hefner owns a magazine. It's about the fact that Hugh Hefner is 84 and he's into 18-19 year old porn. It's not creepy for Hugh and it's not creepy for your 39 year old friend to be into 18-19 year old porn. When I'm 84, if I live that long, I would be into 18-19 year olds. Do you think any 84 year old man is attracted to 84 year old women? At least your 39 year old friend is young enough that some of his peers might be attractive, but that doesn't mean he can't be into 18-19 year olds.

Fake IDs are easy to get but even a 17 or 18 year old reveals their age when they speak so one should be able to spot a 13 year old a mile away. It takes minimal time for it to show. The solution is common sense, self control and know the person you're with before it goes too far. But that age--even 17 still has the equivalent of puppy-brain--doesn't always use much common sense, as I recall. So, what's the answer again? Hell, I don't know.
