So all those women out there who get (aka allow themselves to be) knocked up and the father isn't in the picture, they aren't single? What are they, if not single?
They are Moms. Or perhaps, Unmarried with child. These women have a commitment and are living with another person (child). Now perhaps when the child is grown they no longer are living with the child and become single.

The word "single" does not mean anything to me as far as whether or not they have anyone financially dependent upon them. Someone can have an alcoholic brother, a terminally ill mother, and 5 children all living in the same house. But if the person is not married, then they are single.

I sure would want to know that before I dated such a Single person. Rather encumbered they are.
It's the pitiful state of yours truly, unmarried and not involved in a relationship even if that relationship is between two people who are not recognized by law to be a couple. There are a great many couples who are committed to each other who have never been and perhaps never will be married but that doesn't make them single in my book.

"Single" does not refer to parental status. Never has, never will. That's why we call them "single moms."
