I smile at everyone all of the time. I also speak to people whether I know them or not. That is just who I am...and like lovesmountains said it makes me feel good.

Really Denver, they don't smile much. I would have thought it would be different there. Phoenix is like that too, though.

What if the person does that with everybody?
Oh boy, then they've got a problem. Can you imagine lingering eye contact and smiling to everyone?

I mostly smile at guys that I'm NOT interested in because the ones I am intimidate me!

Well now there's more confusion added to the equation.

I smile at everyone out of politeness but it's actually pretty painful for me. LOL.

Sometimes girls smile at me when I'm walking pass them but I'm not sure if that's because they like me or they're just nice.

I don't smile at anyone so I'm not sure why they're smiling at me.
Possible Reasons:

1. She's having a good day and just decided to smile more.
2. She thinks you're cute and the smile is a nod to your cuteness.
3. She's flirting with you/she flirts with everyone
4. Maybe she likes the "strong, silent" type.

That helps me out thanks!!!

Sometimes I will make eye contact and I then smile. The lady will then turn away, put her head down and fast paced walk away.

I think this will ease my opinion of myself as not looking like a serial killer or something. Maybe I am just intimidating.

I hope they don't hear that screeching violin playing as if I am going to kill them when they look at me.

WAH WAH WAH WEE WEE WEE!!!

CHEE CHEE CHEE HAH HAH HAH!!!

France also. Perhaps Europe in general. I had a from Scotland that told me if a guy ever smiled at another guy he didn't know that he would be thought of as gay and risk getting beat up.

I think smiling at strangers may just be largely a North American custom.
