Many people, at least people I know seem to say once a woman's 35 or 40 and hasn't ever been married, she's basically a spinster and will probably stay that way.
The statistics show most women are married by 24 or 25, and very few (less than 10%) haven't been married by their 30s and later.
I'd say around 40 is when a never married woman is a spinster. (No offense to anyone.)
Ages 18-24 seems to be when unmarried women are called single.
Ages 25-40- single seems to change to unmarried
Ages 40+? spinster?
I do say.."People set their ways as they get older" but the ones who have never been married, possibly not so much..
I guess because they have never had to share their life with another, and is open to change? Not always...
This is such a derogatory term, similar to "old maid". I can't imagine anyone would like being called this way. It doesn't just mean "unmarried", it also means "childless, prissy and repressed". Not a good definition for a woman of ANY age.
I think the term spinster is outdated and derogatory. I'd never say someone is a spinster. The term I use is never married, which is more accurate and kinder.
The last time I heard the term "spinster", was when I was reading Henry James and Jane Austen.
Lol exactly.
I don't think spinster's or old maid's exist anymore. Not in todays society.
Never being married is no longer a bad thing.
