This somewhat relates to the Cosmo board. The majority of people answered "yes, it is BS." I find that to be interesting how so many people generalize what the opposite sex wants into one or several categories. What do you guys think?

Yep. I think the media has distorted our views/expectations in regard to the opposite sex.

As has Photoshop.

Sure it has. A majority of people put way too much stock into what the media has to say, that's why all these magazines next to the cashier at the supermarket sell so well. It's the reason silly romantic comedies are so popular.

You remind me soooooooo much of another CD poster who starts a lot of threads but never participates in the discussion. Im thinking you may be a regular but with a new/different profile name.

Anyways, Im not sure what you mean by "Media distorting our views of the opposite sex". I find that difficult to even comprehend unless you are homebody with the only interaction you get with people is online (or even just at work). I get out and live life so I experience life and people in the REAL WORLD. The Media is unable to influence me on the opposite sex.

i think it depends on what kind of media you expose yourself to.

New York-based media is hell bent on convincing men that they are supposed to be feminine little flowers, and that women are supposed to act like domineering b*tches. I hate it.

The media is responsible for my vision problems? Maybe I can make them pay for corrective lenses!

I'm not merely talking about television and movies. I'm
also referring to magazines that you see in the supermarket. However you do make a good point on not letting them influence you in what you see as attractive or desirable in the opposite sex, but that is not the case most of the time. And no, I'm not that other poster. I just joined a few days ago.

Whatever the media says--I know I cannot meet its standards.

I can't even think of the name of the clothing line that pushes the boundaries of 'decency'---must not be important. I do remember that about a decade ago when their ads were bordering on 'pornographic' I stopped caring about anything related to the media.
