I've been told that me being a great cook makes up for all the crazy he has to put up with. I can live with that.
Having someone cook for you is quite wonderful, lately my fiancee' has been on a cooking binge, and I am enjoying it very much. He doesn't know how to make very many things, but he does a great job with the things he makes, and he has been trying new ideas. It definitely makes it easier to forgive the little annoyances.
Since i'm a good cook, I expect for my prospective woman to be able to throw down just as well, if not better in the kitchen. I'm not going to feel like cooking every night so if I know she can cook, that's a big help for me. I have no tolerance for a woman that doesn't have basic cooking skills, that's just ridiculous on so many levels. I'm like "how do you survive, eating out everyday?"
No, from what I read there was some joking about being barefoot and pregnant, and I understand an annoyance at people saying things like a woman who doesn't cook can't be a good mother, which is simply false. I don't get the impression that anyone who posted here is really the type of person that would disagree that it's fine if a woman chooses to stay at home, chooses being the operative word.
Is it really false? How can you be a good mother if you are unable to feed your children a solid, healthy meal? I think feeding and clothing your children are bare minimum parenting skills.

They are. Those are skills that, at the bare minimum everyone should have.

The husband could do all the cooking, a family can hire someone to cook, or healthy food can be bought. I don't believe anyone would ever post that a man can't be a good father if he doesn't know how to cook. Cooking and parenting are different skills. I know a couple of excellent mothers with very healthy, happy children who never cook.

I agree that everyone should learn how to cook, but it is possible for someone who doesn't cook to raise healthy children, especially if they have a high income.

If your husband cooks, or you hire a cook you are feeding your kids. Do you think someone is a bad father if they don't cook? Part of being a good PARENT is providing food for your kids, it doesn't matter who cooks it.
