I think one of the problems is that many of us think that we are kind, affectionate etc etc,
but the other side (who also think they are kind, affectionate etc) don't see this in them, and so people think they actually desire something while others think they have it but there is never a match because they will never perceive it in each other.
Exactly we need to be real with each other. And if we don't like it....move on.
I am notorious at playing hard to get with men that I'm interested in or are interested in me, but when I beat around the bush, men become disinterested. Why? Would you rather women be easy & forward?
A real man doesn't like a woman that plays hard to get. He sees this as playing games and will keep it moving on you in a hot second. I prefer a woman that's forthright and easy; I'll at least know where she stands instead of having to play Sherlock Homes.

But wouldn't a woman being easy get boring after a while?
Why try to justify playing games? it only annoys or hurts people in the end.
I don't get why some women think they need to do this to weed out people who won't pursue them, since any smart man would just walk away from it/
