Hmm, lots of women call me "Sweetie and hun or honey". Mostly older women though, but sometimes from young ones. I really don't think it means anything, but I suppose it could, depending on the woman.

Oi.

I can't believe this thread was made.

I've been called sweetheart, sweetie, hon, honey, and a ton of other things by waitresses.

They don't know my name! These little titles are given to EVERY SINGLE PERSON that she serves! They mean nothing except maybe a nicer tip or to just single you out when she speaks to you.

In a diner setting, these words mean next to nothing!

What about darlin'? I've been called darlin' on a number of occasions.

I've heard darlin' often from older waitresses actually.

I don't correctly know the title sequence that waitresses give people as they get older.

I'm assuming sweetie is the first they used, with darlin' coming in last.

I think "honey" and "sugar" are kind of a catch-all for any age, but I have noticed "sugar" a lot more in recent weeks.
