The bankruptcies were in the last 15ish years........
By the time that happened they were already too comfortable in their situation to care about divorce. It would be too much trouble to live separate lives again, better keep going.
Since the money is the only sure thing and the true love is only a "chance" of course I'd take the money. The "chance" will always exist and could possibly never be fulfilled in any case.
Hmm do you think the polls would change drastically if the finding true love option was guaranteed.
Ideally, I'd find true love with a wealthy man! Instead I found true love with a an average guy financially, but one who I know truly has my back...wondering if the women who said "give me the money" would marry Mel Gibson?
We might never have a mansion, but he knows all the Seinfelds AND all the Brady Bunches, and he gets me completely (yet still loves me, lol)
I have never been independently wealthy, but have done well enough financially to do a lot of things. None of it compared to the happiness I have had since meeting the love of my life!
Moolah. Easily. Not so that I could drape myself with bling while I vroom down the street in my Maserati but because I highly value financially independent and financial security.
I don't believe in true love at all.
I'm speaking from a single lady point of view at the moment. I don't think I would kick a guy to the curb in pursue of money but who knows.

Yes. The way you frame the question is skewing the results. A more fair question would be:
Guaranteed $80,000-$100,000, comfortable lifestyle with guaranteed true love for the rest of one's life vs
Guaranteed Millions
Answer would depend on many factors. Some people value money and hedonism over relationships and people. I can kind of see how someone who grew up in poverty might pick the millions, but then again, middle-upper middle class income is pretty good.
Not many on their death bad wished they had spent more time accumulating millions and billions. Many regret they didn't have more and/or better relationships though.
