We're lucky to live in a society that women (or men) are allowed to leave their spouses without being looked down upon and shunned from society. That women have the freedom to be able to make it on their own and not have to depend on men.
Good thing you didn't.
I hate to say this but these days its dangerous stepping into a scene like that.
You never know how that could backfire on you.
Best to stay out of it.
Reminds me of a story I heard from a friend. Someone she knew was in a doc's office in the Caribbean. A Muslim man pushed his pregnant wife because she walked in the main area before him. The place was filled with pregnant muslim women and their men, and there was no reaction, just a couple of odd looks.
Good thing you didn't.

I agree, stay away from it because I was in a situation kind of like the OP one time and I went in to stick up for the lady and the lady turned on me making a scene...I then looked like the bad guy because she was yelling at me when I was actually trying to go over and help her ass

I think to have the freedom to leave a bad marriage behind, people have to accept that the divorce rate will be where it is. Some divorce for perfectly good reasons, some duck out without much of a fight to save the marriage.
Unfortunately the picture the OP paints isn't so rosy. Change the genders, and lets say the woman is the abuser, which is just as likely. But they're married and have children. Yes, he's free to leave, but might very well end up living in near poverty since he's paying at least child support, maybe alimony, and she will get a house if they own it. Could go the other way too. My brother ended up divorcing his wife, and got a big payout/alimony, even though he hardly worked the whole time they were married. Injustice. Divorce leaves a lot of victims in its wake. Lots of pain and suffering.

Hold up. If I was in that situation, I'd fight for full custody with supervised vistation based on her abuse makes an unsafe environment for my children, I'd make a case for the house since I don't want to uproot the kids, and make her pay ME child support since I have the kids. All of these can be helped by getting the best lawyer you can afford. This can work for EITHER gender.
