How does everyone feel about taking a date to a sports-type place like Buffalo Wild Wings or BJ's Brewhouse?
If someone were taking me to someplace like that, it'd fairly obvious that they don't know me very well. I don't do sports, and I hate bars that have more TVs than customers. Thumbs down.

Well...I guess my question was aimed more at people who are into sports bars. Would they care about going to a sports bar, or would they prefer that their guy take them to a more 'upscale' place as a dating destination?
I don't know BJ's, but Buffalo Wild Wings would be a good date spot, I think. (Maybe not for a first date.)
BJ's Brewhouse is probably more of a restaurant with TVs that show sports, than it is a 'sports bar'. Regardless, BWW is pretty awesome and has a great menu, and the atmosphere is great. BWW is fun and I enjoy going there with a group of friends. But for dates, I absolutely love BJs as the better option.

I think this would be a cool spot to go for a date then. (I"m a guy.) For a first date, it might be better to go somewhere quieter to get to know the person a little better, but after a few dates, why not go somewhere with more energy and action than a more upscale place?

There's a brew pub/sports bar here that is not a chain but has the BEST nachos. I would not object to a date there. Our group usually ends up there for happy hour after we volunteer at the Food Bank.
Catching up on this thread has made me hungry for In-and-Out Burger. Sadly, the closest one is in California. Back to OP's chain restaurant dilemma, I'd choose Red Robin over Applebee's or Olive Garden. OG's prices have gone way up and their servings and quality way down in the last couple of years. Red Robin gives you bottomless fries.

I thought Red Robin was a fast food place. It's not?
I'm curious where the OP took his "gurl"?
Also, whatever happened to doing something cheesy (but fun) like bowling? Bowling is pretty inexpensive. I read an article a while back that said activity dates create more of a bond because your adrenaline gets flowing and you bond over the excitement of the activity- or something like that. Kind of makes sense because I know when my company forces us to do team "bonding", it's usually over some type of activity and I generally like the people and have more fun than I would if I was just forced to sit there and talk to them over dinner.

It's like the most expensive burger joint I've ever been to. Like $10/burger, which the burger is good, but it's not $10 good.
It is a sit down restaurant, which they offer bottomless fries, but it's still not worth it.

A date once took me to go do laser tag, we also played a few games, talked, and had a bit to drink. It was fun.
