Pick Up Artist is the new hot thing in town. Lots of videos, books, seminars etc, in order to teach men how to turn ice cold women into sexual slaves just by using a few techniques.
So I wonder: does this stuff really work? Any male forumite has tried? Any female forumite has been seduced by a PUA?
I don't know if they work. I've never been picked up by a PUA--most are kind of cheesy. Had one guy insult me once at a bar and then try to kiss me later... he was a jerk. He insulted me so I didn't like him. Why would I want to kiss him? In retrospect, I get the feeling he was following some kind of PUA technique.
Before you waste money on some kind of class (that I see as akin to "get rich quick" or "lose 30 pounds in 30 days"), just try working on confidence and refining social skills.--it's free after all and won't hurt. But most of all be yourself if you are looking for a woman to be serious with. Why waste time with women who interested in a facade you've created and aren't interested in who you really are?
But whatever you decide to do, I wish you good luck!
I think if it gives you increased confidence, I think it can help you if you are realistic as well. If you are a "2" trying to pick up "10s", no I don't think it will help.
i'm personally fascinated -- not by the pua people or techniques, but in the way the majority of "polite" society interprets and reacts to whole thing. They loathe it.
For example, if some socially awkward guy who has NEVER read any PUA anything walks up to a girl in a bar and insults her, she says, "Oh he must be a PUA. He is trying to neg me." Any poor assh*le who tries a pickup line and fails becomes a de facto "PUA" to them. Meanwhile some guy who actually understands the nuances of it uses it to charm a girl, and PUA never crosses her mind. In that sense it is very amusing to me.
I have friends who are already cool and charismatic people in their own right, and exposing them to a little bit of PUA literature has helped them turn their relationships around completely. They go into it extremely skeptical, take it with a grain of salt, and learn a little bit that goes a long way. It challenges their preconceived ideas about what women are attracted to.
The flip side is that people who are socially awkward to begin with are often incapable of identifying bad advice.

I am just curious about the subject...it's so American, it reminds me of Tom Cruise in Magnolia, or that Ben Stiller movie, can´t remember the name now.
I never use techniques with the ladies...well, I know some feet massage techniques that make them crazy...
