Has anybody here ever gone on a date with a guy or girl and they pretty much spent their entire night texting?

I consider this to be very offensive, and it comes across to me as a girl saying "You're irrelevant, texting is more important"

I once saw a couple holding hands at the mall and texting with the other

Does anybody else see this problem, going on a date with a habitual texter?

When it happened the first time on a date, I was gone. Nothing like a virtual slap in the face from a texting addict.

Now I watch to see how attached their fingers are to that damned slide-out keyboard before I even approach them.

Yes, I'm with you all on that one--very bad form. The only time I could ever see it as acceptable is if the date apologizes and says I really need to send this one, and then stops.

Someone sent me a horrifying email the other day that showed what happened to a man who was texting while driving--it was very graphic. I just can't imagine what could be that important--it's not like I'd end a friendship w/ someone if they didn't immediately return my text. Even a job offer could wait.

Not to kidnap this thread, but a related peeve of mine is when you're demoted from voice calls to texts to, finally, forwards.

It's like watching the fall of Rome over the course of a few weeks.

If it was actually something that was really important I wouldn't have a problem with it but if she was doing it all the time I wouldn't be seeing her again. I had something similar to that happen on my first and only date with a woman last year. I'd met this woman for lunch and I think she had some little gadget that could access the internet and she was constantly checking to see the progress of a golf tournament. She sent me an email the next day and said she was sorry and that it may have seemed rude but it was rude and I never contacted her again.

If I go out on a date and she starts texing, then I (provided that I have her number) would text her tell her good bye.
