I'm curious. Most health plans cover this because it's "family planning". I wonder if the ACA covers it now. Hmmmm...something to look into for those that can't afford it.
My health insurance charged me $100 + co-pay to see my gyno. Best money ever spent. Had it done when I was 30. I'll never regret it. If anything, I regret not realizing it was an option, and then getting it done sooner. I knew after my first abortion at age 15, I had wished there was a way I'd never ever get pregnant again. I already knew for sure I didn't want kids...ever! Just didn't realize I actually could get a tubal.
At this point, my boyfriend and I wouldn't be able to get the procedure done. We're too young. We've talked about it a lot, and I'm sure at some point in our thirties we'll revisit it again.
...have already undergone vasectomy or tubal ligation? And if not, why not?
1. I'm scared of surgery. If I could take a pill that would make me sterile immediately, I would.
2. I'm 20 and most doctors will absolutely refuse to sterilise a young, childless woman.
Even if I wanted kids in my life, I would adopt, foster, teach, mentor or become a stepmother. I don't want to pass on my genes (asthma, depression) or deal with the physical ramifications of pregnancy and childbirth. Having biological children is absolutely out of the question for me.
My husband has had his for way over a year, he got his free from the VA Medical Center. It was the best damn decision he ever made, other then marrying me I can't count how many times I have thanked him, when I see some unruly pain in the ass child screaming and throwing a fit and making like a living hell for whatever parent got stuck with it. It is so great not to have to worry with pregnancy scares, i'm so thankful he went and got it.
Resolutely chidfree-and menopause should be coming along pretty soon, so contraception will be a moot point.
The experience of an involved medical procedure (tubal ligation) is not something I could willingly undergo-am squeamish & phobic.
Many years ago, I paid for a vasectomy for my bf (now ex), but then he left me (and I ran out of money).
So a guy who has already had that done would get bonus points, according to my subjective preferences.

Hey there Ruth. I have to disagree about the condom bit. Young humans raging on hormones are reckless and certainly don't take the time to educate themselves about how to properly use a condom. As a woman I would never want an IUD inserted into my body. No thanks!!!!
I was very fortunate that when I met my wonderful partner (going on 11 years together ) that he had already had a vasectomy! It was too good to be true!
No more birth control pills for the rest of fertile my life!
