It can become genital via oral sex. This info was already covered in the first half of the thread. Thread's going in circles, now.

I would try to get more info about it from her and your doctor. I also agree with the point that you should likely both see her doctor together before you have sex.

I wouldn't run if someone told me they had either of those. HSV1 is generally oral, but can be transferred to genitals. And last I heard 1 in 4 women (minimum; highest I've heard is 3 in 4) have HPV of some sort. Men are carriers for HPV, and the prevalence is higher: 2 in 4 (minimum; max I've heard is 3 in 4). Yes, half. And virtually all sexually active people will contract some sort of HPV in their lifetime. It may not be the one that causes warts or cancer, but still. Men are more likely to have it in their mouths. Women are more likely to have it manifest in the genitals.

It is truly awesome that she told you....sounds like a reasonable and decent person to me. I have a friend who got HSV-2 from her partner. It did not last. The first person she had sex (oral and vaginal) with after being diagnosed (almost 2 years later).....she told the guy AFTER the fact. Yeah, that didn't last either. When she told me that, I was horrified. She didn't even give that guy a choice. Now for behavior like that, you should run (away and to your doctor). But running after someone had the decency to tell you the truth and give you a choice up front? No way.

Maybe its time to be old fashioned. Get to know the person first before you decide to share a few diseases. Keep in mind also, that people who contract these diseases often have an increased likelihood of contracting others, like cancer.

It's awesome that she was so upfront with you. Those sound like very common conditions. Go to your doctor and talk to him about what precautions you take it you decide to move this relationship further.

And people that drink diet beverages, eat processed foods and do other 'unnatural' things with eating habits are also at a higher risk for cancer. I don't believe this is a valid argument when considering the overall picture of how a prospective love interest takes care of him or her self.

Well don't know a lot about those STD's. But if minor and curable proceed as per normal.

I know some of you guys were asking for more info about her. She said that she has oral HSV-1 and high-risk HPV (meaning that she is at risk for cervical cancer). Does that change things at all?
